ALLERGY CONCERNS & INDOOR AIR

Can air duct cleaning
help with allergies?

Start with the cause, not a cleaning promise. Duct cleaning has not been shown to prevent health problems, and routine cleaning is not recommended for every home. Read the EPA guidance.

01

Consider the whole home.

Indoor and outdoor triggers vary. Pets, pollen, smoke, dampness and household activities can matter. Dust mites are associated with bedding, carpets and upholstery—not principally ducts.

Regular housekeeping, bedding care and moisture control belong in the conversation. Use filters suited to your HVAC equipment and follow its maintenance instructions. EPA: common triggers and practical steps.

02

Inspect before deciding.

EPA identifies substantial visible mold in hard ducts or HVAC components, pest infestation, or excessive debris with particles released from registers as reasons to consider cleaning. Light dust alone is not evidence of a health risk.

Ask to see the condition and agree which components need attention. EPA: when cleaning may be warranted.

03

Choose the right specialist.

A duct inspection cannot diagnose symptoms. Discuss persistent allergy concerns with a healthcare professional. Suspected mold needs qualified assessment and correction of the moisture source; wet or moldy porous duct insulation may need replacement, not cleaning. EPA: mold and duct materials.

What can I check safely before requesting an estimate?

Note when you notice the problem, which rooms are affected and any recent renovation, leak or filter change. Photograph only what is visible from a safe, accessible position. Do not open equipment, disturb suspected mold or reach into ducts.

Ask the provider to separate cleaning from repairs, identify accessible components, explain protection and cleanup, and list exclusions. A price is easier to compare when the scope is written down.

DRYER VENT CARE

A clear exhaust path.
A practical safety habit.

Lint buildup and restricted venting can increase dryer fire risk. Cleaning is one part of safe operation; it cannot guarantee that a fire will never occur.

U.S. Fire Administration: clothes dryer fire safety (PDF).

Dryer vent cleaning and service scope

Between service visits

  • Clean the lint filter before and after each cycle. Never run the dryer without it.
  • From a safe, accessible position, look for a visibly crushed or damaged vent and an outdoor cover that does not open during operation.
  • Have installation and servicing handled by a professional. Do not move a connected dryer or disconnect gas or electrical components yourself.

Maintenance guidance: USFA dryer safety checklist.

When should I ask for help?

Longer drying times, visible lint accumulation or damaged venting warrant attention; they do not identify the cause by themselves. Stop using a dryer that appears unsafe and arrange qualified service. If there is smoke or fire, leave the area and call emergency services.

For an estimate, describe the dryer location, where the exhaust exits, access restrictions and whether the duct is shared. Condos and shared laundry rooms may require management approval. Cleaning, duct repair and appliance repair are different scopes.

A LITTLE PLANNING GOES A LONG WAY

Ready for
a clear next step.

You don’t need to diagnose the system yourself. A few details help us plan a useful conversation.

01 · Before the estimate

Share your location, property type, service concern and system count if known. Tell us about restricted access, rooftop equipment or shared systems. Ask whether an inspection or site visit is needed before a final scope can be prepared.

02 · Access & approval

Discuss access to vents, equipment and the dryer connection. Tell us about furniture, pets or building access rules. Confirm the preparation and appointment arrangements with PAC; don’t move heavy appliances or access unsafe equipment yourself.

03 · Scope & exclusions

Use the written estimate to identify the systems and components covered. Repairs, remediation and additional services require a separate scope when applicable. Suspected moisture, mold or damaged materials may need further assessment rather than routine cleaning.

Read the pricing & scope guide
04 · Review & documentation

Agree your documentation needs before work begins: systems or areas serviced, inaccessible components and findings needing follow-up. Ask about photographs and invoice requirements for your project. Keep the records with your maintenance information.

Will duct cleaning solve allergies or every indoor-air concern?

No. Duct cleaning is not proven to prevent or treat allergies. Consider the source of a problem, appropriate filtration, ventilation and moisture control. An assessment can help distinguish a duct-cleaning need from concerns that require a different specialist.

Is sanitizing automatically part of duct cleaning?

No. Ask about physical cleaning and any proposed treatment separately. A chemical treatment should have a clear reason, product information and suitability for the system. It is not a substitute for addressing moisture or the source of contamination, and it is not a guarantee of safe indoor air.

How much does air duct cleaning cost in Los Angeles?

Pure Air California residential air duct cleaning starts at $299 and residential dryer vent cleaning starts at $149 for eligible scopes. Your final written estimate depends on system count, access, condition and the components included. Commercial, HOA and smoke-affected properties require a property-specific quote. Call (213) 792-4145 to discuss your space.

How do I know whether my air ducts need cleaning?

Heavy debris, particles coming from supply registers, pest contamination or renovation dust are reasons to arrange an inspection. Reduced airflow or odors can have other causes, so cleaning should follow an assessment. Suspected mold, water damage or fire contamination may need specialist evaluation.

How often should air ducts and dryer vents be cleaned?

Air duct cleaning should be based on the condition of the system, not a universal calendar. Dryer exhaust inspection and cleaning depend on appliance instructions, use, vent layout and lint buildup. Commercial laundry or shared exhaust may need a different maintenance plan from an individual home.

Does Pure Air California work with businesses and HOAs?

Yes. PAC offers commercial air duct, HVAC component, filter and dryer vent cleaning across Greater Los Angeles. Past records include Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles guestroom systems, SoulCycle studio dryer exhaust and Westchester Family YMCA ventilation. Tell us your unit or system count, access rules, requested paperwork and preferred work window.

What happens before cleaning starts?

We discuss your property, the equipment and what you have noticed. Confirm the systems and components to be included, access requirements, proposed methods, price and any exclusions in a written scope before work begins. Ask separately about optional treatments or additional work.
